Becoming A Patient
scheduling your care
Our patients come to San Diego Sexual Medicine from across the country and internationally. The appropriate appointment type depends on your current stage of care and your clinical needs.
Comprehensive Evaluation
A comprehensive evaluation is how new patients establish care at SDSM. Over two to four hours, our clinical team takes a detailed medical and sexual history, performs a focused physical examination, and conducts the specialized testing your condition requires. Depending on your case, this may include ultrasound imaging, hormonal lab work, sensory and pelvic floor assessment, or pharmacological diagnostics. You leave with a working diagnosis and a treatment plan built for your case. Partners are welcome throughout, and our facility is designed for their comfort as well as yours.

Continuing Care for Established Patients
Continuing care visits maintain treatment continuity for established patients and are conducted by our nurse practitioners. These visits update your treatment plan, manage ongoing prescriptions, and review any new concerns that have arisen since your last appointment. Most visits are in person at our San Diego facility. Virtual visits are available for established patients who have relocated or who cannot travel in a given year. Prescription renewals are handled in connection with scheduled continuing care visits.

Sex Therapy
Sex therapy addresses the psychological, relational, and emotional dimensions of sexual health that medical treatment alone cannot resolve. Sessions are conducted by Dr. Rose Hartzell, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and AASECT-certified Sex Therapist who has been part of the SDSM team since 2010. She works with individuals and couples on concerns including sexual desire and arousal, sexual pain, trauma, and intimacy and communication within relationships. Sessions are available both in person at our San Diego facility and virtually via Zoom. Before your first session, you will receive a registration and consent form to complete in advance.

The result is a mark that is easily distinguished within the crowded, logo-heavy world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies.
