Clinical Research Manager, Sex Educator
Sue Goldstein is an AASECT-certified sexuality educator and certified clinical research coordinator who serves as Clinical Research Manager and Program Coordinator at San Diego Sexual Medicine. She is the site manager for all clinical trials conducted at the practice and oversees sexual medicine training for medical students, residents, fellows, and clinicians from around the country. She also develops educational programs for The Institute for Sexual Medicine, a charitable corporation dedicated to research and education in the field.
Sue earned her Bachelor's degree in American Civilization from Brown University. Her professional background includes work as a lab technician in endocrinology, as a teacher and musician, and as a technical writer in sexual medicine. She co-authored When Sex Isn't Good, a collection of patient stories and clinical science developed with Dr. Goldstein as medical consultant, and is an associate editor of the Textbook of Female Sexual Function and Dysfunction and Female Sexual Pain Disorders. She is managing editor of Sexual Medicine Reviews and the author of multiple peer-reviewed papers, and has lectured on sexual health at universities and medical societies around the world.
Sue is Past President of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH), where she continues to serve as Industry Relations Chair. During her presidency she established the ISSWSH Humanitarian Award. Her prior ISSWSH roles include Global Development Chair, Education Chair, and Online Services Chair. She also serves on the Educational Projects, Fellowship, and Female Sexual Function Committees of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) and the Education Committee of the International Society for Sexual Medicine, and has contributed educational content for the ISSM Online University, the AUA Core Curriculum, and the SMSNA Fellowship Curriculum. She is a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). In 2017 she received Distinguished Service Awards from both ISSWSH and SMSNA, an unusual dual recognition reflecting her contributions across both organizations.
